A.R.B.A. Romney Sheep Romney sheep originated in the windy and rainy climate on the lush coastal marshes of Kent, in Southeastern England. There, the breed developed characteristics such as natural hardiness, a quiet disposition, ease of lambing, strong maternal instincts, and a long lustrous fleece. We breed our Romneys for quality fleece. They produce one of the finest fleeces of the long wool breeds, noted for its well-defined crimp, lock structure and relatively low grease weight. The annual staple length is approximately six to eight inches. This lustrous fleece hangs in separate locks, with minimal cross fibers between the locks. It is excellent for hand spinning. Because their fleece often has a clean yield of over 70%, Romneys are one of the heaviest wool producers of all sheep breeds. Please contact us regarding availability and price. We can also reserve a fleece for you. Here are some of our Kansas Romney breeding stock: (Click For Larger Image) Check the Farm Store for Availability of Animals & Fleece. |
